Police in the Kigezi sub-region have issued a set of safety guidelines for motorists and the general public in preparation for the upcoming Easter festivities.

The Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, has urged operators of entertainment venues and places of worship to heighten their security measures to ensure the safety of revellers and congregants during the festive season.

Maate called on motorists to exercise maximum discipline on the roads, strictly adhere to the Highway Code, and avoid over-speeding highlighting the region’s challenging terrain as a major concern.

He strongly warned drivers against drinking and driving, noting that it impairs judgment and significantly increases the risk of fatal accidents. Additionally, he advised against making long return trips in a single day to avoid fatigue and emphasized the importance of ensuring vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
