The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has emphasized the urgent need for environmental stewardship, commending the dioceses that actively took part in the recently concluded Environment Month.
Delivering his 2025 Easter Message on Wednesday under the theme “Jesus’ Resurrection, Our Hope for Eternity,” based on 1 Corinthians 15:12–58 and Matthew 28:1–15, Archbishop Kaziimba addressed a range of pressing issues, both national and regional.
Expressing deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has led to an influx of refugees into Uganda, he called for immediate humanitarian support—particularly for vulnerable women and children—in the form of food, shelter, hygiene kits, and medical supplies.
Archbishop Kaziimba also decried the rising levels of corruption in both public and private sectors, describing it as a moral crisis that demands repentance and decisive action.
Among the Church’s achievements, he highlighted the launch of the Church of Uganda Strategic Planning Framework 2026–2030, which aims to guide diocesan and institutional planning across the Province.
The Archbishop further applauded Save the Mothers for two decades of impactful work in improving maternal and child health in Uganda.
He used the opportunity to advocate for increased investment in the health sector, including the accelerated implementation of a National Health Insurance Scheme.
Reaffirming the critical role of Church-founded health facilities, Archbishop Kaziimba stressed the importance of strong leadership and sustainable management.
He urged clergy and all Church members to enroll in the Provincial KIDO Health Insurance Scheme.
Finally, raising concern over the growing threat of drug and substance abuse among young people, he called for a collective response from the Church, families, and communities to restore moral values and support rehabilitation efforts.
