The Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Nicholas Kamara, has called for the unconditional release of political prisoners as Christians prepare to celebrate Easter.
Delivering his Easter message to the media on Thursday evening from his office in the Central Division of Kabale Municipality, Dr. Kamara emphasized that Easter is a season of hope and renewal — even for those currently incarcerated due to their political beliefs.
He condemned the continued detention of individuals based on political affiliation, calling it a violation of fundamental human rights.
Citing the case of opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, who has reportedly been on remand since November last year, Dr. Kamara accused the government of undermining the Constitution and abusing the rights of its citizens.
In addition to his political message, Dr. Kamara urged Christians to embody the true spirit of Easter by reaching out to the needy and vulnerable.
He encouraged believers to uphold the moral values cultivated during the Lenten period and called for a reduction in practices such as alcoholism and adultery.
