Glorious Betonde, a 40-year-old resident of Nyamufumura Ward in Sheema Central Division, Sheema Municipality, gave birth to sextuplet’s five boys and one girl via cesarean section at the Neo Care Fertility Centre in Mbarara City.
The delivery occurred just seven months into her pregnancy.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Betonde expressed her joy at the extraordinary birth, her second.
“I am overjoyed and grateful for this blessing. It’s a miracle,” she said.
Following the delivery, the newborns were transferred to the intensive care unit at Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital in Nyamitanga, Mbarara City, for specialized care. The transfer took place on Good Friday last week.
Dr. Mike Kyewalyanga, a pediatrician at the hospital, acknowledged the joy surrounding the birth but also highlighted potential challenges.
“While the birth of the babies is a joy, we anticipate certain challenges, including feeding and breathing difficulties. However, we are confident in our ability to manage their care, having handled similar cases successfully in the past,” Dr. Kyewalyanga noted.
Moses Bansigaraho Bishweko, Mayor of Sheema Central Division, extended his congratulations to Betonde, commending her strength and celebrating the rare and joyous occasion.
