The Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, has commended President Yoweri Museveni for his trailblazing efforts in empowering women and girls across various sectors of government by creating opportunities for them to thrive.

Speaking during the belated Women’s Day celebrations held at Semuto Primary School playgrounds in Nakaseke District on Wednesday, Namayanja lauded the President’s long-standing commitment to gender equality.

“Under President Museveni’s leadership, Uganda became the first country to reserve parliamentary seats for women, amplifying our voices and presence in politics,” she said.

Namayanja emphasized that the progress made in uplifting women was a direct result of intentional policies introduced by the President and the NRM government not mere rhetoric.

“He didn’t just talk about change; he enacted legislation to ensure women’s representation in Parliament, positioning Uganda as a global leader in gender inclusion,” she added.

Referring to this year’s national Women’s Day theme, “Accelerated Action for Gender Equality,” Namayanja urged women to take advantage of government wealth creation initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the GROW project.

“These programs offer tangible opportunities for socioeconomic transformation,” she said. “They are pathways to accelerate your economic empowerment.”

She applauded residents who have effectively utilized PDM funds and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding support for such initiatives.

Hon. Najjuma Sarah, the Nakaseke District Woman Member of Parliament, echoed Namayanja’s sentiments, encouraging women to engage in income-generating activities to boost household income in line with President Museveni’s vision.

Ignatius Koomu, LCV Chairman of Nakaseke District, underscored the importance of prioritizing education for girls while also emphasizing the need to raise boys with equal dedication.

“We must nurture both boys and girls with the same commitment. it is our duty as parents to shape them into the responsible leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
