The First Lady, Janet Museveni, has called on women to embrace responsibility, stewardship, and the wise, productive use of their resources as key principles for personal and communal growth.
Speaking through Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa during the belated International Women’s Day celebrations and the launch of the Agriculture, Livestock and Cottage Industries (AGLICO) Women’s SACCO, held at Kabulasoke Core PTC in Gomba District on Friday, Mrs. Museveni emphasized that it is only through such values that the SACCO can grow to the level of internationally renowned initiatives like the Grameen Bank.
Quoting the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25:14–30, the First Lady encouraged the women to take charge of their resources with diligence and purpose.
She congratulated the women of Gomba for their impressive initiative, describing it as a powerful step toward poverty alleviation.
Mrs. Museveni urged the women to draw inspiration from the Grameen Bank, which was established by uneducated and impoverished women in Bangladesh and went on to become a global model for microfinance.
She also extended her gratitude to Gomba District Woman MP Sylvia Nayebale for leading the SACCO initiative and organizing the Women’s Day event to celebrate and empower women.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa, representing the First Lady, also presided over the commissioning of the Ngomanene Primary School block in Gomba East, constructed by Dr. Kirumira Henry Harris Kalule through his Kelim Foundation.
The First Lady expressed her appreciation to Dr. Kalule for his dedication to improving education for Uganda’s children.
