Kigezi Homeboyz Football Club, based in Kabale District in Southwestern Uganda, is facing a daunting battle to preserve its FUFA Big League status, with only six matches left in the season.

The club’s relegation worries deepened further after a goalless draw against Kaaro Karungi FC in the Southwestern Derby played on Sunday evening at the Kigezi Homeboyz Al-Madinah Stadium in Kabale Municipality.

The hosts started brightly, pressing early and creating several chances, but failed to capitalize. Kaaro Karungi remained composed, weathering the early storm and managing the game efficiently until halftime. After the break, the visitors employed tactical time-wasting strategies, with several players going down easily to disrupt the Homeboyz’s rhythm and run down the clock.

Kigezi Homeboyz’s struggles this season have also been evident off the pitch, having parted ways with two head coaches in a bid to revive their fortunes.

Their most recent departure was Scottish coach Stephen Pritchard, who left the club on April 20th after a string of poor results. Aggry Madoi, who began the season as assistant coach, has since been promoted to acting head coach for the remainder of the campaign.

The Gorillas desperately needing maximum points to boost their survival hopes, failed to break down a resilient Kaaro Karungi side. They now remain firmly entrenched in the relegation zone, sitting on 23 points from 22 matches.
