Residents of Kiraro Village in Rwingwe Parish, Nyakabande Sub-county, Kisoro District, have staged a protest at the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) Kisoro branch, following claims that they were asked to raise UGX 50 million to have electricity extended to their area.
The matter came to light during the village’s end-of-month meeting held over the weekend, where community members gathered to discuss service delivery and other local concerns.
According to residents, UEDCL officials allegedly instructed them to collect UGX 50 million to cover the cost of electrical materials, including wires, electric poles, and a transformer.
