The NRM Electoral Commission has dispatched a team of officials to oversee the upcoming village structure and LC1 Chairperson flag bearer elections, scheduled for Tuesday, May 6th.

Campaigns for the above positions officially commenced on Wednesday, following a week-long expression of interest and nomination exercise conducted across the party’s 72,000 polling stations.

Zonal supervisors, alongside party registrars from district to village levels, have been tasked with ensuring free, fair, and credible elections. They are expected to uphold the integrity of the process without fail.

Hon. Jacqueline Kyatuhaire, the NRM Deputy National Treasurer, who represented the Secretary-General, assured the public that Tuesday’s elections will adhere strictly to the party’s rules and regulations.

She urged all involved to follow official guidelines and resist political interference.

Kyatuhaire further called on supervisors and registrars to exercise due diligence throughout the exercise, noting that this will be the first election conducted using the party’s new clean digital voters’ register.

“We must restore our members’ faith and trust in the NRM processes,” she added.

NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, encouraged supervisors to champion internal democracy by respecting the will of the people as expressed through their vote.

“Maintain discipline, be punctual, collaborate closely with your team leaders, provide timely feedback, and address any gaps urgently. With everyone’s cooperation, we expect a successful outcome,” Dr. Tanga said.

He also reminded them that their role is strictly limited to observation and reporting to the national Secretariat for necessary interventions.

“You have no role in voting, counting, or declaring results other than providing observation and guidance,” he reiterated.

Hon. Emmanuel Dombo, Director of Information and Publicity, stressed the importance of the village elections, noting that they directly impact members of the Central Executive Committee, including the National Chairperson.

“Do not disappoint the Secretariat and party members by presiding over a sham exercise,” he warned.

Hon. Rosemary Seninde, Director of Mobilisation, urged officials to reject corruption and resist abuse of power.

“The role you have assumed is significant and tempting. Some politicians are ready to buy victory at all costs. Be professional,” she advised.

Hajjat Medina Naham, Director of Finance and Administration, emphasized the need for humility, discipline, and adherence to procedures.

“You are our ambassadors. Go with humility, discipline, and focus. Listen to the people, forward their issues for redress, and avoid shortcuts. Shortcuts in a crisis can cut short the future of our party,” she said.

The training exercise was also attended and addressed by several other senior leaders from the NRM Secretariat.
