One person has been confirmed dead and another injured following a motorcycle accident that occurred on Saturday at around 3:50 PM in Nyakatembe B Cell, Garuka Parish, Bwambara Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
The accident involved two motorcycles: a red Bajaj Boxer with registration number UFZ 296J, and another red Bajaj Boxer with registration number UEX 428L.
Police have identified the deceased as Amos Nuwamanya, 36, the rider of motorcycle UEX 428L. He was a resident of Kamabare Village, Karangara Parish, Bitereko Sub-county in Mitooma District.
The injured rider was identified as Emmanuel Turyasingura, 29, the operator of motorcycle UFZ 296J and a resident of Garuka Parish, Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri District.
According to police reports, Nuwamanya was riding downhill from Kikarara Cell towards Bwambara Town when he collided head-on with Turyasingura, who was riding uphill in the opposite direction. Both riders were reportedly riding in the middle of the road when the crash occurred on the murram (unpaved) surface.
Nuwamanya died on the spot, while Turyasingura was rushed to Nyakibale Hospital for medical attention.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that a team of traffic officers, led by DTO.2, visited and thoroughly examined the scene.
He added that a postmortem was conducted, relevant statements were recorded, and both motorcycles were towed and parked at the police yard pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
