The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese in Kisoro District, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse has called for the restoration of peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to enable its citizens to fully enjoy the blessings of their country.

Bishop Mbitse made this appeal during a prayer session at the Kirambo border point, which connects Uganda’s Kisoro District and the DRC. The session followed the official opening and renaming of Busigi Church of Uganda to St. John’s Busigi Church of Uganda.

His prayer was particularly inspired by Christians from the DRC living near the Kirambo border, who often cross into Uganda to worship at St. John’s Busigi Church. The bishop acknowledged their deep desire for peace, a sentiment shared by their Ugandan counterparts.

He also cautioned Ugandan Christians residing near the border against harboring hatred or resentment toward Congolese nationals, urging them instead to embrace unity and compassion.

Bishop Mbitse emphasized the urgent need for those responsible for the ongoing conflict in the DRC, particularly in the North Kivu Province to come together for peace talks. He extended his prayers to all countries suffering from war and unrest, asking for divine intervention to deliver and restore peace to the affected populations.

“Living in conflict distorts people’s ability to think clearly, unlike those in peaceful environments,” the bishop noted, renewing his call for an end to violence and a return to peace in the region.
