Two candidates who contested for the position of Secretary for Finance in the Kisoro District NRM (Main Stream) elections have officially petitioned Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, challenging the validity of the recently announced results.

The petitions follow the declaration by Kisoro District NRM Registrar, Tadeo Mujyambere, who announced Hashakimana Joachim as the winner with 375 votes, narrowly defeating Sentoke Muto Joseph, who garnered 370 votes.

In response, both Sentoke Muto Joseph and Silvernal Ndaruhutse submitted separate petitions to the party’s electoral commission, dated May 26 and May 27, 2025, respectively. The two allege that the election was marred by irregularities and inconsistencies that compromised its credibility.

Sentoke raised concerns over the conduct of the election, claiming that even after a repeat voting exercise in certain areas, the process remained disorganized and lacked transparency. He also accused some district-level NRM officials of mismanaging the election.

Despite his disappointment, Sentoke commended his supporters for their loyalty and urged them to remain patient as the petition is reviewed. He emphasized that his goal is to have the election repeated to ensure a fair determination of the rightful winner.

However, Registrar Mujyambere clarified that the decision to repeat the election does not fall within his mandate.
