Nobert Mao has secured a fourth term as President General of the Democratic Party (DP) following a decisive victory at the party’s delegates’ conference held at Asamar Country Resort in Ruti, Mbarara City.

Mao won with a commanding 969 votes out of the 1,360 cast, reaffirming his firm hold on the party’s leadership.

His closest contender, Buikwe South MP Dr. Lulume Bayigga Micheal, received 339 votes, while Elia Alitia, the outgoing Vice President for Northern Uganda, came in third with just 52 votes.

The results were officially announced by the party’s presiding officer, Kennedy Mutenyo, after several hours of rigorous vote counting.

Earlier in the day, the vote tallying process was disrupted when the tally center was forced to relocate to the hotel’s conference hall.
