Police in Rukiga District have launched a manhunt for unidentified assailants who allegedly murdered a 35-year-old bar owner in Muhanga Town Council.
The deceased, identified as Evelyn Nkanshabe, commonly known as Kyarenga, was a resident of Rwabahanze Cell, Muhanga Ward, Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District. She was reportedly murdered on Monday night under unclear circumstances in Rubare Town Council, Ntungamo District.
According to reports, at around 10:00 PM on Monday, the deceased received a phone call from her boyfriend, only identified as Brian, claiming he wanted to buy her beer. She left to meet him but never returned home. Concerned relatives later reported her disappearance at Muhanga Police Station.
Tragically, her body was later discovered along the roadside in Rubare Town Council. Police retrieved the body and transported it to Itojo Hospital Mortuary in Ntungamo District.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said that a murder case file has been opened at Rukiga Central Police Station. Investigations are ongoing.
He added that the crime scene was visited by traffic and CID detectives from both Ntungamo and Rukiga districts, along with a Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO).
Maate appealed to the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of those responsible.
