The former National Unity Platform (NUP) chairperson for Kisoro District, Sibomana Laban, is facing serious allegations of staging his own abduction in a bid to solicit compensation and medical allowances from the party’s leadership.
This development comes after a press conference held yesterday at Bamboo Gardens in Kisoro Municipality, where Sibomana claimed he was abducted on May 5 by unidentified security personnel from his residence in Kamonyi Ward, Northern Division, Kisoro Municipality. He alleged that he later regained consciousness in Mbarara.
During the press briefing, Sibomana claimed he was assaulted, tortured, and left with severe injuries. He also stated that UGX 3.6 million and important party documents were taken from him during the ordeal.
Sibomana voiced disappointment with the NUP leadership for allegedly failing to cover his medical expenses and demanded reimbursement for the stolen money.

However, in a phone interview, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya refuted Sibomana’s claims. He revealed that Sibomana had recently visited the party’s headquarters in Kamwokya, where he was facilitated with a head scan. According to Rubongoya, the scan showed no serious injuries. Additionally, Sibomana was given UGX 230,000 as a transport refund.

Rubongoya expressed disappointment in Sibomana’s conduct, stating that there is no credible evidence to support the claims of abduction or the alleged theft of UGX 3.6 million. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the welfare of its members and urged Sibomana to return to headquarters for further medical evaluation if necessary.
