A section of elderly residents from Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga District have anonymously endorsed Edmund Atusasire, popularly known as Researcher, as their preferred candidate for the Rukiga District LC5 Chairperson seat.
The endorsement was led by Kana Kamugisha, father of Gibs Barigayomwe, the Rukiga Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) alongside other key community stakeholders.
Their declaration signals strong grassroots support and is viewed as a major boost for Atusasire’s bid ahead of the upcoming elections.
The elders cited Atusasire’s consistent commitment to development, transparency, and inclusive leadership as the main reasons behind their endorsement.
In his remarks, Atusasire expressed gratitude to the elders, acknowledging their continued guidance and role in shaping the community.
“You are the pillars of our culture, the keepers of our values, and the guides of our young generation. Without your voice, there is no direction,” he said.
Atusasire emphasized that his leadership approach is rooted in listening and collaboration.
“I have come here not just to speak, but to listen to your concerns, your hopes, your ideas. Leadership is not about commanding from above, but about walking with the people, especially our elders, shoulder to shoulder,” he remarked.
He described Rukiga as a district rich in potential from the hills of Kamwezi to the valleys of Kashambya and full of promise, driven by hardworking farmers and ambitious youth.
“But to turn that promise into prosperity, we need servant leadership, leadership that puts the people first, not politics,” he added.
Atusasire pledged to prioritize improving roads and access to markets and essential services, particularly in rural areas like Kamwezi.
He also promised to support farmers through cooperative marketing and extension services, as well as promote youth empowerment and skills development to reduce unemployment and dependency.
He further committed to improving healthcare by ensuring well-motivated health workers and adequate medical supplies, while preserving cultural heritage and upholding the dignity of elders by involving them in district planning and development.
“This journey I am taking is not mine alone, it is ours. I am merely a messenger and servant of the people. With your wisdom, guidance, and prayers, I believe we can build a Rukiga that works for all. Let us walk this path together, because the future of Kamwezi, and indeed of Rukiga, lies in our unity,” Atusasire concluded.
