The Ndorwa East County Member of Parliament, Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, has called on residents to embrace agriculture as a practical and sustainable approach to fighting poverty.
Speaking during the handover of forked hoes to residents of Rwesasi in Buhara Sub-county, Kabale District on Friday, MP Niwagaba emphasized the critical role of agriculture in Uganda’s economic development. He encouraged households to invest in growing vegetables, fruits, and perennial crops to boost food security and improve household incomes.
Recalling a legal challenge he faced in 2021, Hon. Niwagaba addressed past accusations brought against him by his former political rival, Dr. Protazio Begumisa, who claimed he used hoe donations to influence voters during the campaign season. The MP clarified that the current distribution was not politically motivated but rather a gesture of gratitude to constituents who supported him.
He also urged residents to shun religious-based divisions, warning that such sectarianism undermines unity and development within communities.
In a related development, Wilbroad Atwebembeire Rwamunahe, an aspiring candidate for Kabale District LC5 Chairperson, decried the increasing cases of electoral malpractice. He called on citizens to remain vigilant and defend the integrity of their votes during elections.
