RUBANDA – Rubanda’s Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Eric Ssewandigi has cautioned newly recruited civil servants against underestimating their roles shortly after joining the service.
Speaking during an induction meeting at Volcano Hotel in Rubanda town council, Ssewandigi highlighted the issue of individuals using academic credentials for lower positions to enter the civil service system but later developing disdain for their jobs.
He emphasized that such behavior not only hampers service delivery but also obstructs personal growth.

Ssewandigi expressed concern about some recruits misusing their salaries on alcohol instead of fulfilling their job responsibilities. He urged the new hires to remain dedicated to their work while actively seeking advancement based on their qualifications.
Rubanda’s Principal Human Resource Officer, Isaac Iga, revealed the implementation of a system withholding salaries for workers unable to fulfill at least 15 days of work in a month, aligning with the civil service code to combat corruption.

Rebecca Makumbi, the Principal Human Resource Officer in the Ministry of Public Service, emphasized the need for District Local Governments to enforce laws governing the removal of civil servants who neglect their duties.
She advised workers to stay focused on their responsibilities regardless of how they secured their positions.
