President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Bukasa–Ssentema–Kakiri Road in Wakiso District.

The ceremony took place at Bukasa Catholic Church in Bukasa Village, Bukasa Sub-county, Busiro County. The 12.7-kilometre dual carriageway, being constructed by Chinese firm CICO at a cost of Shs 56 billion, is scheduled for completion within 18 months. The road will span 18 metres in width and is expected to become one of the best in the region.

According to Eng. Simon Odoki, the resident contractor, the project timeline runs from May 2, 2025, to November 2, 2026, with current progress at 4.1%.

While addressing the gathering, President Museveni highlighted the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) development strategy, rooted in both vertical and horizontal integration as articulated in the party’s Ten Point Programme.

However, he urged citizens not to focus solely on infrastructure, but to prioritize household income generation.

“It is good to have a tarmac road, but what is your income at home? That is why we introduced wealth creation at the household level, government jobs alone are not enough,” said the President.

He emphasized that wealth creation drives job opportunities, especially when coupled with industrial growth and the expansion of service sectors like hospitality and transport.

Factories, he added, play a key role in value addition and employment creation, strengthening the national economy.

As part of his support to the local community, President Museveni donated Shs 300 million to Bukasa Catholic Church and the local Protestant church.
