The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court has today convicted and sentenced former Rakai District Service Commission Chairperson, Mpuga David, to five years in prison or a fine of Shs 7.2 million for soliciting bribes from job applicants.
Mpuga was found guilty of demanding Shs 20 million from an applicant seeking the position of Agricultural Officer.
He later entered a plea bargain, repaid the victim Shs 30 million, and was barred from holding any public office for the next 10 years.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has confirmed ongoing investigations into the sale of jobs by various District Service Commissions, with recent arrests reported in Mpigi and Gomba districts.
The operation is expected to extend to other parts of the country.
