Police in Kanungu District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Turyashemererwa Esau, a 50-year-old resident of Rutoro Cell, Rutugunda Parish, Kirima Sub-county.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased, a cattle trader, had a bar/shop near his home operated by his wife, Asiimwe Annette. On the night of July 24, 2025, at around 11:00 PM, Turyashemererwa reportedly asked his wife for a bottle of waragi. When she declined, he allegedly assaulted her by hitting her on the head with a stone.

Shortly after, a neighbor, Sunday Eric, heard an alarm and rushed to the scene, where he found the deceased unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. He arranged for transport to Katate Health Centre IV, where Turyashemererwa was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police visited and documented the scene. A postmortem was conducted, and both the wife and their daughter were arrested to aid ongoing investigations.
