Police in Kanungu District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified woman whose body was found tied with ropes and stuffed in a sack in the Ntungwa River.
According to police reports, the discovery was made on Saturday at around 3:00 PM by a group of young boys who were fishing in the river. Upon noticing a green sack stuck in the water, they opened it and found a lifeless body inside.
The area chairperson of Kanabizo Cell in Ntungwa Parish, Nyamirama Sub-county, was immediately alerted and dispatched his defense secretary, David Kasigeire, to notify the police.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the crime scene was visited, examined, and documented. The body was retrieved and taken to Kanungu Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Maate noted that the body appeared fresh and is suspected to have been killed earlier that day before being dumped in the river.
He appealed to the public to check the mortuary in case they are missing a loved one, and assured that investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators and the motive behind the murder.
