The Church of Uganda has strongly refuted circulating rumors claiming that a new Bishop has been elected for the Diocese of Busoga, calling the reports false and misleading.

In an official press release issued on Monday, August 4, 2025, Rev. Canon William Ongeng, the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda, clarified that no such election has taken place. He emphasized that any information suggesting otherwise is untrue and should be disregarded.

“When a Bishop is elected and the name of the Bishop-elect is duly confirmed, the Church will make an official announcement through its authorized communication channels,” Rev. Ongeng stated.

He urged Church members, the media, and the general public to avoid spreading or acting on unofficial and unverified information.

“We call upon all Christians in Busoga Diocese to remain calm, prayerful, and united as we continue to follow the proper procedures in the election of their next Bishop,” he added. “The Church of Uganda remains committed to a fair and transparent process that reflects the values and integrity of our faith.”
