As Uganda joins the global community under the United Nations to commemorate International Youth Day on Tuesday the former Kyambogo University Guild President and Deputy National Coordinator for the Pan African Fidelity Movement, Germany Amanya, has urged youth to actively fight corruption without fear.
This year’s celebrations take place under the theme: “Youth Advancing Socio-Economic Transformation through Technology and Partnership.” In an interview with our correspondent, Amanya emphasized that youth must overcome fear to tackle corruption and focus on building economic independence to gain true value in society.
Amanya further highlighted the growing vibrancy among youth in Rukungiri, noting that their involvement in the National Youth Council, which he described as the highest youth governance body before district councils, is key to what he terms “top-to-bottom empowerment.”
He urged young people to be self-reliant and to think critically about the kind of leadership they want for their future.

Meanwhile, Kamusiime Adrian, a young entrepreneur and Youth Chairperson for Nyakishenyi Subcounty in Rukungiri District, praised the government for empowering youth through initiatives such as the Parish Development Model and Youth Livelihood Programmes, which have significantly improved young people’s livelihoods.
He also appealed to the youth to avoid alcoholism and violence, reminding them that they are the pillars of the nation and should therefore love God and pursue the right path.
