Police in Kasese District have announced that no charitable walk organized by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) will take place in the district tomorrow unless clearance is obtained from the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The development follows a request submitted by FDC leaders to the Kasese Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Joe Walunsimbi, seeking permission to hold a charitable walk aimed at delivering food donations to displaced persons temporarily camped at Kasese Municipal headquarters.

Addressing the press on Tuesday evening, Kasese FDC Chairperson, Ronald Kabuku, accused security agencies of inhuman conduct after allegedly blocking further food supplies to the camp. He warned that the directive should be investigated and called for urgent intervention from human rights defenders.

He further suggested that such actions could even attract the attention of international justice bodies like the International Criminal Court.

However, Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, dismissed Kabuku’s appeal as misplaced, stressing that the application had been directed to the wrong office. He clarified that only the Inspector General of Police has the authority to clear such a walk and advised organizers to follow the right procedures if they intend to proceed.

Separately, a senior politician who casually talked to our reporter said Kabuku was just looking for relevance now that the challenges of the camp wasn’t scarcity of food and water but clearance for the items to reach the disgruntled land claimants gathered at the RDC’s office.
