Police in Kanungu District are investigating the suspected murder of a two-year-old girl who went missing earlier this month.
The child, identified as Ninsima Elizabeth, disappeared on August 11, 2025 from her home in Rugunda cell, Katojo parish, Rutenga sub-county.
According to police, her decomposed body was discovered on Wednesday morning, floating in a stream about 100 meters from her home. Residents immediately alerted authorities, who visited the scene with a canine unit. However, investigators noted that the scene had already been tampered with before police arrived.
The body was later taken to Katate Health Center for a postmortem examination as inquiries continue.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death.
