A total of 341 police officers from the Field Force Unit (FFU), General Duties, CID, CI, and Traffic are undergoing a week-long intensive Public Order Management (POM) training in the Kigezi sub-region as part of preparations for the 2026 general elections.
The training, which commenced on Tuesday at the former National Teachers College in Kabale Municipality, is being led by ACP Ulama David from police headquarters. It is supervised by Regional Police Commander SSP Alex Wabwire and FFU Zonal Commander SP Ategeka, according to Kigezi Police spokesperson Elly Maate.
Maate said the drills aim to sharpen officers’ skills in crowd control, tactical maneuvers, explosives handling, conflict resolution, and risk assessment.
He assured residents that the exercises are purely training activities and called on them to continue with their daily routines without fear.

Meanwhile, Rwenzori East Police spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime confirmed that similar POM training has been launched for officers from Hima, Bwera, Katwe Kabatoro, and Kasese Municipality divisions.
Tumushime emphasized that the training focuses not only on law enforcement but also on protecting human rights.
“Public Order Management is about protecting the rights and dignity of all Ugandans, even in challenging situations like the upcoming elections,” he noted.
The nationwide POM drills come as security forces intensify preparations to manage crowds, protests, and other election-related incidents in the lead-up to the 2026 polls.
