The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has permitted Boona FM 91.8 in Rukungiri District to resume broadcasting after weeks of suspension but maintained the suspension of programs hosted by station Manager Namanya Kakyene until he completes his journalism qualifications.
In a letter dated September 19, 2025, UCC Acting Executive Director Haruna Musinguzi confirmed that the decision followed a meeting with the station’s management at UCC House in Bugolobi on September 11, during which remedial measures were agreed upon to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
The Commission authorised Boona FM to resume operations effective September 20, 2025. However, the station has been directed to pay a fine of USD 260 for non-compliance with earlier directives issued on July 15, 2025.
The fine must be cleared within 14 days.
Boona FM has also been reminded to finalise its licence renewal process within 60 days and ensure that only qualified journalists registered with the Media Council are allowed to host programs.
According to UCC, these measures are intended to safeguard the station from future regulatory action while promoting professionalism in the broadcasting industry.
