Kabale District Roads Committee has officially launched the implementation of the Shs1 billion Roads Rehabilitation and Maintenance Grant for Kabale District and Kabale Municipality.
The launch followed a committee meeting held at the district headquarters, chaired by District Woman MP and Roads Committee Chairperson, Hon. Catheline Atwakiire Ndamira.
The session reviewed the 2024/25 Annual Roads Performance Report for Kabale District, Kabale Municipality, and the Ministry of Works–Kabale Station, before approving the Annual Roads Work Plan for 2025/26.
Hon. Atwakiire urged stakeholders to ensure proper utilization of road funds, especially during the rainy season.
“Rains are likely to devastate our roads. We must prioritize maintenance to protect investments and safeguard road users,” she said.
Ndorwa East MP Wilfred Niwagaba called on the Ministry of Works to give urgent attention to key roads under its jurisdiction, including the Old Kabale Road and Maziba Bridge.
He also raised concern over stalled works on the Mbarara–Kabale–Katuna Road, where the removal of signages has created safety risks.
Kabale Municipality MP Dr. Nicholas Thadeus Kamara emphasized the need to strictly follow development plans to keep pace with the municipality’s rapid growth.
Kabale District LC5 Chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija decried inadequate road machinery and urged government to designate Kabale as a regional workshop hub, equipped with more machinery to ensure timely interventions.
Municipality Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha condemned the vandalism of street signages by scrap dealers and appealed to the Ministry of Works to expedite repairs of street lights from Kabale roundabout to Rwakaraaba, citing rising security concerns.
Deputy RDC Michael Muramira Kyakashaari stressed the importance of launching and commissioning all government projects in the district to ensure transparency and value for money.
