Police in the Kigezi Sub Region are investigating two separate incidents of suspected murder that occurred in Kisoro and Rukungiri districts.
In Kisoro, the body of a 21-year-old casual laborer, Ivan Niyonsaba, a resident of Zindiro Cell, Kamonyi Ward in Northern Division, was discovered in a trench at Kisoro old market on Thursday morning.
Police say the deceased had left home for his usual work as a porter but never returned. His body was later found dumped in the trench under unclear circumstances.
The scene was examined, and the body taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.
Meanwhile in Rukungiri District, police are probing the death of 38-year-old Okello Dismus, who was allegedly assaulted to death by unknown assailants.
Okello, who had worked for more than two years as a casual laborer at the home of Rwemereza Annet in Bwambara Sub County, was last seen on Wednesday evening guarding timber at his employer’s residence.
His body was later discovered on Thursday morning at Omukayaga Cell, near a trading center, with signs of assault. Police officers, including a K9 unit, visited the crime scene, though the dog search yielded no leads.
The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed both incidents and appealed to the public to provide any information that could help in identifying and arresting the perpetrators.
