The Ndorwa East County Member of Parliament, Honorable Wilfred Niwagaba, has called on men to show more love and commitment to their spouses in order to build stable families and responsible citizens.

Speaking during the burial of the late Jackline Muhereza in Omukarangara Village, Burambira Parish, Kaharo Sub County, Kabale District on Thursday, Niwagaba praised her husband, former Kaharo Sub County LC III Chairperson and his political assistant, Datsan Muhereza, for being a devoted husband and pillar in his family.

“If men could love their wives the way Muhereza did, we would have strong families and raise responsible citizens,” Niwagaba said.

He expressed concern that many men abandon their families during difficult times, urging them to emulate Muhereza’s example of resilience and loyalty.

Niwagaba also recounted his long-standing friendship with Muhereza, describing him as a dependable ally since 2015 when he chaired his election taskforce.

The legislator lauded Muhereza for investing in social relationships and thanked the mourners for standing by him in his time of grief.

Ven. Mitanga Barigye, Archdeacon of Kizinga Archdeaconry, commended Muhereza for standing with his wife through both good and hard times.

Delivering the sermon, Very Rev. Obed Turihohabwe, Dean of St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama, reminded mourners of the brevity of life and the importance of living with gratitude and purpose.

Drawing from the Book of Job, he emphasized:

  • Life’s fragility: Humans are like flowers that bloom briefly and return to dust.
  • The certainty of death: Once life ends, it does not return—hence the need to live meaningfully.
  • Hope beyond death: Even in despair, there remains a longing for resurrection and restoration, fulfilled through Christ.
  • Divine mercy: God determines our lifespan, yet His grace offers comfort during suffering.
  • Humility: Our human frailty should lead us to seek God’s grace.
  • Renewal after loss: Like a tree that sprouts again from its stump, there is hope even after devastation.
