The National Alliance of Ugandan Canadian Associations (NAUCA) was officially launched during Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day celebrations held on October 11, 2025, at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, Canada.

The launch was officiated by Mohammed Bagonza, Head of the State House Diaspora Unit, who delivered the keynote address. He was accompanied by his deputy, Henry Wabyona Araali, Private Secretary to the President on Diaspora Affairs, alongside His Excellency Ambassador Allan Kajik, the Acting High Commissioner of Uganda to Canada.

The establishment of NAUCA marks a significant milestone in uniting and strengthening coordination among Ugandan communities across Canada. The alliance aims to bring all Ugandan associations under one umbrella, promote cultural exchange, and address issues affecting Ugandans in the diaspora.

In his remarks, Bagonza reaffirmed the Ugandan government’s commitment to deepening engagement with the diaspora, ensuring that Ugandans abroad remain visible, connected, and empowered.

NAUCA Chairperson, Justus Mirembe, underscored the importance of unity and diversity within the Ugandan Canadian community.

“Diaspora issues such as visa waivers for Ugandans with foreign passports, high dual citizenship fees and tedious processes, diaspora voting rights, and the National Diaspora Policy have always been at the centre of my advocacy,” Mirembe said.

He added that the formation of NAUCA represents a step toward building a unified voice capable of advocating for policy reforms and promoting initiatives that benefit both the diaspora and Uganda’s national development.
