
Police in Rubanda District are investigating a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) staff member in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The crash occurred at around 5:00 am on October 12, 2025, at Kitahurira Village, Kashasha Parish, Ikumba Sub-County, along the Rubanda–Ruhija marram road.
According to police, a white Toyota Premio registration number UAW 683S was traveling from Kabale towards Ruhija when the driver lost control at a bend.
The vehicle overturned several times, veering into a slope and nearby gardens.
The driver, Isaac Maloba, 31, a Samia by tribe and in-charge warden at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park’s Ruhija sector, died on the spot. He was a resident of Ruhija Sector Camp in Rubanda District.
His passenger, Jefferson Kibuka, an accountant at Bwindi National Park, sustained injuries and was rushed for medical attention.
Police visited the scene and transferred the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem. The vehicle was towed to Rubanda Central Police Station pending mechanical inspection.
UWA authorities in Rubanda have also been notified and are coordinating with investigators.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that inquiries are still ongoing.
