RUKUNGIRI, UGANDA: Police in Rukungiri District are searching for a man suspected of murdering his partner in a domestic violence incident that occurred in Buhimba Sub-county on Monday evening.
According to the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, the suspect, identified as Amoni Gumisiriza, a resident of Kagando Cell, Kabingo Parish, allegedly attacked and fatally cut his partner, Evalyn Tusiime, 46, a resident of Kigariko Cell, at her home.
Reports indicate that the two had been cohabiting for about five years. However, recent misunderstandings had strained their relationship, prompting the deceased to report threats to her life to the area chairperson.
“On the night of October 20, 2025, at around 8:00 pm, the suspect allegedly attacked Tusiime while she was having supper and cut her several times on the head, arm, and shoulder,” ASP Maate said.
Her alarm drew the attention of neighbours, including the area chairperson, Justus Mugurura, who rushed to the scene and helped transport her to Nyakibale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police visited and documented the crime scene, and the body was taken to Nyakibale Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Maate said investigations are ongoing and efforts to apprehend the suspect are underway.
