The incumbent Rubanda West Member of Parliament, Hon. Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera, has been duly nominated to reclaim his seat as an independent candidate.
Kamuntu, who recently participated in the NRM party primariesbut lost to Bruce Baraba Kabaasa, said he remains committed to serving his constituents regardless of political affiliation.
His nomination was confirmed by the Rubanda District Electoral Commission Registrar, Medard Nteziyaremya on Wednesday.
Speaking shortly after his nomination, Kamuntu cited his contribution to the establishment of an integrated steel and cement plant in Muko Sub-county, noting that Rubanda’s rich mineral deposits make it a strategic area for industrial development.
The legislator pledged to focus on improving healthcare services, creating jobs, enhancing education, and upgrading road infrastructure if re-elected.
Kamuntu also vowed to defend the rights of farmers cultivating in wetlands, arguing that many residents depend on them for their livelihoods.
“People in Rubanda survive on small-scale farming, including wetlands. My goal is to ensure that environmental conservation efforts go hand in hand with people’s survival,” he said.
