The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Honorable Catheline Atwakiire Ndamira, has been officially nominated to contest as an independent candidate for the same seat in the January 2026 General Elections.
Her nomination was conducted by the Kabale District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Aisha Nansubuga, during a ceremony held at the District Electoral Commission offices on Makanga Hill in Kabale Municipality on Wednesday.
Speaking shortly after her nomination, Honorable Atwakiire reaffirmed her commitment to improving household incomes across Kabale District, saying her development agenda aligns with the government’s target of transforming the 33% of Ugandan households still engaged in subsistence farming into the money economy.
She revealed that she has chosen the symbol of a house to represent her candidacy, explaining that it reflects her dedication to uplifting household welfare.
“Once families are elevated from poverty, the entire country achieves sustainable economic development,” she said.
Honorable Atwakiire is widely recognized for her poverty-alleviation initiatives, particularly her livestock distribution project, under which Christian households receive pigs while Muslim and Seventh-day Adventist families receive goats to promote income generation and self-reliance.
She noted that these projects have already transformed many households and pledged to expand them further if re-elected.
In addition to her legislative work, Honorable Atwakiire serves as Chairperson of the Kabale District Roads Committee and is a member of both the Budget and Infrastructure Committees of Parliament.
She pledged to continue lobbying for development programs that enhance equitable service delivery and improve livelihoods across the district.
Honorable Atwakiire, who lost the NRM party flag to Enid Origumisiriza in the recent party primaries, polling 47,246 votes against Origumisiriza’s 53,713, later challenged the results, citing alleged irregularities such as manipulation of tally sheets, multiple voting, tallying errors, forged results, and influence peddling.
She emphasized that her decision to contest as an independent is motivated by her desire to offer Kabale voters a fair, credible, and development-focused choice in the 2026 elections.
