Counsel Eliab Naturinda Mporera has been duly nominated to contest for the Ndorwa West County parliamentary seat on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket in the forthcoming general elections.
Naturinda, who defeated the State Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. David Bahati, in the recent NRM primaries, was officially nominated by the Kabale District Electoral Commission Registrar, Aisha Nansubuga, at the Commission offices in Kabale Town.
Shortly after his nomination, Naturinda proceeded to the NRM offices at Esso Park in Kabale Municipality, only to find them closed. The situation sparked anger among some of his supporters, who demanded that Hon. Bahati’s posters, bearing both his image and that of President Yoweri Museveni, be replaced with Naturinda’s. However, Naturinda urged calm and declined to endorse the move.
Hon. Bahati, who also serves as the NRM Chairperson for Kabale District, was on Wednesday nominated as an independent candidate, signaling a tense race for the Ndorwa West seat.
Speaking to journalists outside the closed NRM offices, Naturinda condemned what he termed as “growing impunity” within the constituency. He also reacted to a Daily Monitor report that listed Ndorwa West among potential election hotspots, assuring the public that his campaign would champion peace and security.
Naturinda pledged to focus on socio-economic transformation if elected, emphasizing efforts to raise household incomes and improve the livelihoods of residents in Ndorwa West.
