The Electoral Commission has officially declared Ofwono Opondo P’odel of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) elected unopposed as the Eastern Region Representative of Older Persons in the Parliament of Uganda.
Opondo was formally announced on Friday by Richard Nsuube, the returning officer for the Eastern Region Representative of Older Persons in Parliament, in line with Section 37 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177.
The declaration was made at 11:20 AM at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala.
“I, Nsuube Richard, being the Returning Officer for the Eastern Region Representative of Older Persons in Parliament, pursuant to Section 37 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177, hereby declare Ofwono Opondo P’odel of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) duly elected and unopposed,” Nsuube said.

Speaking after the declaration, Opondo expressed gratitude to his constituents.
“I am deeply grateful to the older persons of the Eastern Region for placing their trust in me and for ensuring that this seat was uncontested. I pledge to serve not only the older persons of the Eastern Region and Uganda but also the entire public”. He said.
“As a Member of Parliament, I will speak for both my constituency and the nation. I further pledge to uphold and abide by the laws and Constitution of Uganda,” he said.
