Commander of the Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter, officially flagged off a fleet of ambulances at Kenya Army Headquarters in Nairobi on 7 November 2025, marking a major step in strengthening the Army’s emergency medical capabilities.
The new deployment underscores a strategic commitment to providing rapid and effective medical support across all formations and operational theatres.
The ambulances will be strategically stationed to expand coverage and reduce response times, reflecting the Commander’s focus on delivering quality healthcare to service personnel and their dependents.
Equipped with advanced life support systems, diagnostic tools, and integrated communication technologies, the ambulances are designed to provide sophisticated pre-hospital care, improving casualty survival rates, especially in remote and challenging environments.
At the flag-off ceremony, Lt Gen Ketter highlighted the importance of robust medical services in maintaining operational readiness.
“Our soldiers operate in challenging environments, and safeguarding their health is paramount. These ambulances reflect our commitment to the welfare of our personnel and our readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies, whether on the battlefield or during humanitarian missions,” he said.
This initiative is part of the Kenya Defence Forces’ broader strategy to modernize medical infrastructure and logistics.
Beyond military operations, the enhanced ambulance fleet will support civilian authorities during natural disasters, pandemics, and other emergencies, strengthening civil-military cooperation and national resilience.
