The Ndorwa East Member of Parliament, Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, has issued a stern warning to officials from the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) accused of extorting money from residents seeking national identification services.

Speaking to residents of Kirire, Ahakasikano, Nyakahita, and Kabungo in Katenga Parish, Kaharo Sub-county during his re-election Campaign on Thursday, Niwagaba condemned reports that some NIRA officials were charging between Shs6,000 and Shs10,000 to offer services that are supposed to be free of charge.

The legislator described the act as illegal and urged residents to report any such officials to the relevant authorities for investigation and action.

“The National ID registration exercise is a free government service. Anyone demanding money from you is breaking the law and will be held accountable,” Niwagaba emphasized.
