Stakeholders have underscored the importance of strong early childhood education as Bishop Asili Memorial Nursery School graduated 48 pupils during its annual ceremony held on Saturday, November 22, at the school premises in Kamukira Village, Kirigime Parish, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The event went beyond celebration, turning into a platform to highlight how quality nursery education shapes the foundation of learners and supports government efforts to improve education standards in Uganda.
During the Holy Mass, school chaplain Rev. Fr. Placid Mugumya said nursery graduation is not just a formality but a tool for inspiring long-term commitment to education among families.
He explained that such ceremonies help parents appreciate the value of investing early in their children’s learning, as they begin to envision future milestones like university and college graduations.
Fr. Mugumya added that while the children may not fully grasp the meaning of gowns and certificates at their age, the occasion sends a clear message to parents and the community about the importance of nurturing young learners from the earliest stages.
Representing the Guest of Honour, Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture and NRM activist Peace Rugambwa, former Kabale District Woman MP aspirant Pamela Kihumuro commended the school for complementing government efforts to improve access to quality education.
She noted that institutions like Bishop Asili play a critical role in building disciplined, knowledgeable citizens who can contribute to national development.
Kihumuro emphasized that early childhood education is a key pillar in achieving the country’s education and human capital development goals, urging parents to prioritize and support their children’s learning from nursery level.
The headteacher, Sr. Magret Tusiime, used the occasion to call for continued collaboration between schools, parents, and government to address challenges in the education sector, including limited resources and the need for more support to early childhood programs.
She said the success of the 48 graduands reflects the impact of proper guidance, care, and a conducive learning environment at the foundational level.
By the end of the ceremony, which included awarding of certificates, presentation of gifts, and symbolic celebrations, the message was clear: investing in early childhood education is not just about one school’s success, but about securing a better future for communities and the nation at large.
