Residents of Bukimbiri Sub-County in Bukimbiri County, Kisoro District have raised serious concerns over persistent gaps in basic social services, citing the lack of clean water, electricity, improved schools, and better roads as key issues undermining their quality of life.
The residents say access to clean and safe water remains the most urgent challenge. Many households are forced to walk long distances to the nearest water sources, with some trekking up to four hours to fetch water from Kashenyi, which they describe as “very far.”
Those who cannot manage the journey often resort to collecting stagnant water in small ponds, exposing their families to waterborne diseases.
To make matters worse, where water is available, it comes at a high cost, with a jerrycan going for as much as Shs 2,000, a price many villagers say they cannot afford on a daily basis.
Beyond the water crisis, residents also pointed to other long-standing issues, including inadequate healthcare services, poor learning conditions in schools, and dilapidated road networks that make it difficult to tra Ednsport goods and access markets.
They particularly mentioned the long-promised skilling centre, which they say has never materialized, leaving many youths without practical skills and opportunities for employment.

Amid these concerns, Bukimbiri County NRM flag bearer, Hon. Asgario Turyagyenda, while addressing rallies at Nyakarembe Trading Centre, Birara, and Kateriteri Trading Centre on Thursday, outlined priority areas he says are aligned with the NRM manifesto and directly respond to the issues raised by the community.
Turyagyenda pledged to champion improved healthcare services, including the provision of an emergency ambulance, expansion of access to clean water, and extension of electricity to underserved areas.
He further promised to support women empowerment programmes, strengthen education services, and promote community skilling initiatives to tackle unemployment and boost household incomes.
