Police in Kabale District have launched investigations into the murder of 67-year-old businesswoman Annah Ntengyereize, who was discovered dead inside her locked home on Tuesday evening.

The incident was reported at 8:25 pm by 16-year-old neighbour Ampumuza Talent, who notified Kabale Police Station after finding the victim unresponsive in her house in Central Cell, Central Division.

A homicide team led by D/Sgt Deogratias Mubangizi responded and forcibly entered through the back door. Ntengyereize was found seated against the wall with a deep stab wound on the right side of her chest. Investigators noted that both doors had been locked from the inside.

A search for the murder weapon and potential suspects yielded no leads, and plans to use a sniffer dog were unsuccessful due to contamination of the scene by early responders.

Ainembabazi, a resident of Omutaba Village in Rubanda District, had reportedly followed his wife, Rita Kadugara, to her parents’ home in Nyamabale Village, where she had taken refuge following domestic disputes.

Police reports indicate a longstanding conflict between Ainembabazi and his in-laws, including accusations of vandalism and theft of iron sheets, cases that had been repeatedly reported to local authorities.

On the day of the incident, Ainembabazi allegedly confronted his wife’s family again, prompting the sons of his father-in-law, Kadugara Justus, to pursue him towards Kafunjo Hill, where they reportedly beat him to death.
