Security authorities have expressed serious concern over recent statements by the NUP Presidential candidate, who has reportedly urged supporters to mob polling stations on Election Day and march to the capital, Kampala, according to Colonel Chris Magezi, Acting Director of Defence Public Information (MODVA/UPDF).
“The candidate has also encouraged his supporters to prepare to confront security forces, claiming that the police and UPDF would be outnumbered”. He said.
Colonel Magezi described this rhetoric as “ill-advised, toxic, shallow in logic, and dangerous,” emphasizing that the security forces strongly condemn such calls.
He warned that those inciting violence and promoting anarchy by misleading young Ugandan’s into confrontation with security forces could face serious consequences.
“The result would be a futile, zero-sum game with no winners,” he said.
Highlighting Uganda’s history of instability, Colonel Magezi stressed that it is inconceivable for an aspiring national leader to seek to undermine the credibility of the country’s security forces, which form the foundation of national stability.
“The UPDF is highly capable, organized, proficient, and lethal. There is no threat we cannot handle, and those who ignore this warning will face the consequences,” he added.
He cited past examples, including al-Shabaab in Somalia, the ADF and CODECO in the DRC, and Joseph Kony’s defunct LRA in the CAR, as proof of the UPDF’s operational effectiveness.
Colonel Magezi also drew attention to regional figures who have misled youth into violence, emphasizing that such individuals have no place in Uganda’s progress and transformation.
He appealed to all political leaders to campaign peacefully, adhere to Electoral Commission guidelines, and operate within Uganda’s legal framework.
