The Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson, Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba, has called for stronger oversight from the District Contracts Committee during the launch and commissioning of government projects, saying their absence continues to enable substandard work by some contractors.
Kasyaba made the remarks on Monday while commissioning three newly completed education facilities: a multipurpose hall at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School Kashakyi, a girls’ dormitory at Bubare Secondary School and a three-classroom block at Rubona Primary School.
He expressed concern that the committee’s frequent failure to attend such events undermines efforts to hold contractors accountable for poor workmanship.
He noted that the district has struggled with construction challenges because the committee rarely reviews contractors’ past performance before awarding new contracts.
This, he warned, exposes both the district chairperson and the district engineer to potential repercussions when projects fall below standard.
Despite the concerns, Kasyaba applauded the work of Geses Uganda Ltd, led by Director Nkurunungi Peter, for consistently delivering quality projects, including the tiling works at Bufundi College Secondary School and the multipurpose blocks at St Thomas Aquinas SS Kashakyi.
The chairperson also used the occasion to highlight Rubanda District’s ongoing progress in the education and health sectors, reiterating the district’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and improved service delivery in all government-funded projects.
