The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Justice Simon Byabakama, has disqualified National Unity Platform (NUP) Parliamentary candidate Mathias Walukaga from contesting for the Busiro East MP seat in Wakiso District.

In an official statement, Justice Byabakama said Walukaga, who had sought to challenge incumbent MP Medard Sseggona, failed to meet the minimum academic requirements for a Member of Parliament as stipulated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap. 177.

“Candidate Walukaga Mathias lacked the requisite minimum formal qualifications for the elective office of Member of Parliament,” the statement reads.

The Commission further declared that “Candidate Walukaga Mathias therefore stands disqualified.”

According to the EC, the Kyengera Town Council mayor submitted academic documents that were thoroughly scrutinized and subsequently found to have expired, leading to his removal from the race.
