The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament candidate, Grace Ankunda Bwesigye, has condemned the growing trend of voter bribery ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
Speaking during a rally at Nkumbura Playground in Kaharo Subcounty, Kabale District, on Tuesday, Ankunda castigated voters who accept as little as 1,000–2,000 shillings on polling day, saying such acts undermine their ability to choose capable leaders.
She noted that many voters “pretend to be blind” after receiving small handouts and end up electing leaders who fail to deliver meaningful services throughout their five-year terms.
Ankunda urged the electorate to reject bribes and instead assess candidates based on their ability to effectively lobby for social services. She added that the commercialization of politics has contributed to the rise of incompetent leaders who lack both capacity and commitment.
If elected, Ankunda pledged to prioritize healthcare for the vulnerable, as well as champion programs that empower orphans and widows across the district.
