The Archdeacon of Kacerere Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Kigezi, Venerable Edward Mwesigwa, has cautioned Christians against prioritising outward appearance over genuine spiritual commitment.
Preaching during the funeral service of 72-year-old renowned radio caller Jack Bitarabeho Hanyanja in Katoma Village, Bwama Parish, Kitumba Sub-county in Ndorwa West, Kabale District on Thursday, Venerable Mwesigwa criticised believers who focus on wearing expensive clothes during church services instead of dedicating their lives to Christ.
He urged Christians to embrace repentance, pursue spiritual growth, and purify their hearts, noting that heaven and hell are real and that every believer must choose their eternal destiny.
He stressed that God does not listen to cries after death, warning that repentance must be done while one is still alive.
Ndorwa West MP and NRM flag bearer Honorable Eliab Naturinda Mporera eulogised Bitarabeho for his foresight in preparing a will that spared his family potential conflicts over land.
He encouraged parents to emulate the late by planning for their families’ future.
Kabale District NRM Publicity Secretary, Turyahabwa Edison, described Bitarabeho as a people-centred individual, while fellow radio caller Junior Njanjare, popularly known as Rutatina Mparana, hailed him as a man who consistently offered valuable advice on radio and championed the concerns of ordinary citizens without bias.
Bitarabeho succumbed to prostate cancer at the age of 72. He is survived by 11 children, eight boys and three girls and 20 grandchildren.
