One person has been confirmed dead and three others injured following a fatal road accident involving a motorcycle and a Kenyan-registered motor vehicle in Kabale Municipality.

The accident occurred on Saturday at around 12:00 p.m. along the Kabale–Mbarara Highway, near Total Petrol Station in Kabale town. It involved a white Mercedes Benz truck, registration number KCN 454H/ZF5373, driven by Mulinge Kisinga (42) from Kitui District, Kenya, and a motorcycle, registration number UER 007X, a red Bajaj Boxer.

The deceased motorcycle rider, identified only as Alex, was a resident of Omukaziniro Village, Bigungiro Parish, Nyamweru Sub- County in Rubanda District. He died on the spot. Three juvenile passengers, two females and one male, who were riding on the motorcycle sustained injuries. Their identities have not yet been established.

According to a police statement, the Mercedes Benz truck was traveling from Kisoro towards Mbarara, while the motorcycle was heading in the opposite direction from Mbarara towards Kisoro. Police say that upon reaching Kabale town, the motorcycle rider attempted to overtake another vehicle without due care, lost control, and collided head-on with the oncoming truck.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, attributed the primary cause of the accident to reckless riding by the motorcycle rider, who attempted to overtake without proper consideration for other road users.
