The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Engineer Contingent, in collaboration with engineers from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), has officially launched joint reconstruction works in Montego Bay, St James Parish.
The initiative began with the reconstruction of houses for residents affected by Hurricane Melissa, marking the start of hands-on humanitarian and engineering support for communities impacted by the disaster.
The joint operation highlights the strong coordination between the RDF and JDF in supporting Jamaica’s recovery and rebuilding efforts. By combining their technical expertise, engineers from both forces are restoring damaged housing structures to improve living conditions for affected families.
Speaking on the mission, RDF Engineer Contingent Commander Col Moses Kayigamba said the effort goes beyond infrastructure repair, emphasizing solidarity with the people of Jamaica and a shared commitment to strengthening long-term community resilience.
He noted that the reconstruction works are being carried out in close cooperation with Jamaican local authorities and the JDF to ensure alignment with national recovery priorities.
The deployment of the RDF Engineer Contingent to Jamaica underscores Rwanda’s commitment to international cooperation, solidarity, and humanitarian assistance in response to natural disasters.
